About
I’ve been involved in church leadership for nearly 25 years. For 15 of these, I held senior operations posts in 2 large Anglican churches. The first was a multi-site church planting parish and the second was a city centre church with 3 Sunday congregations. Both had a membership of 500+
During this time I helped oversee two interregna; grew, transitioned, and restructured staff teams, and developed Support, Leadership & Governance structures to facilitate growth and organisational health.
I was called into ‘Operations’ Ministry to support my senior leaders fulfil their management responsibilities. By helping to release them from operational tasks, I enabled them to focus on their own gifts and calling. I long to see church leaders THRIVE. I have a passion to see ‘vision become reality’ which will only be the result of a healthy team functioning with clarity and purpose.
I have experience with a plethora of staff and HR scenarios, strategic development work, governance reviews, financial management, communication audits, I.T. system upgrades (including migrating church management and finance systems), and managing large building projects. I’m an Associate member of the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development).
Until January 2024, I served in the role of Executive Director of UCAN (UK Church Administrators Network), helping oversee a network of 1700+ Church Administration and Operations professionals. During this time I regularly ran training days on a variety of Management and Administration topics, helped launch UCAN’s ‘Managing Church Well’ course, wrote resources, and gave seminars, alongside my work with individual staff teams across the UK.
On the home front, I’m a committed member (and Treasurer/PCC member) of my local CofE church, I’m married to Melanie and I’m the proud father of two young boys. And most importantly, I’m a huge fan of The West Wing - (which has a lot to teach us about good leadership and management!)
